Karen Mantyla is President of Quiet Power, Inc. a Washington, DC based distance learning training and consulting company.  Quiet Power, Inc. was founded in 1993 to provide distance learning consulting and soft skills training services to the public and private sectors.  Since that time, the company has expanded its suite of services to include Executive Coaching and training for senior leaders and supervisors on various leadership competencies.  Karen has been an Executive Coach and Workshop Facilitator since 1996, utilizing and blending various learning technologies for client communications for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Quiet Power, Inc. facilitates many DLA Executive Coaching programs, including the DLA Distribution Executive Coaching Program, including coaching services to both military and GS civilian senior leaders throughout the world. Karen has been presented with12 Commander's coins, reflecting excellence for her work throughout various operations at DLA and DLA Distribution.

Karen received her Professional Certification in Distance Learning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a renowned leader in distance education. She is the co-author of a book entitled “” (ASTD 1997) and author of “Consultative Sales Power” (Crisp Publications 1995), “Interactive Distance Learning Exercises That Really Work” (ASTD 1999), The 2000/2001 ASTD Distance Learning Yearbook” (McGraw-Hill June 2000), “The 2001/2002 ASTD Distance Learning Yearbook” (McGraw-Hill June 2001). Karen's latest book is entitled "Blending E-Learning: The Power is in the Mix" and was published by ASTD. Karen's newest book, The Learning Advantage was published in June 2009 by ASTD. The book and online content provides a focus on achieving integrated professional development results that align with an enterprise strategic plan. The book explains how to use blended learning technologies to support the strategic plan, and the development of a workforce development plan that supports organizational goals and objectives.

Karen was on the Board of Directors and the Editor of Distance Learning News, the Official Publication of the Federal Government Distance Learning Association, a specialized chapter of the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). She was nominated and elected to the FGDLA Distance Learning Hall of Fame in 2003.

Karen is an active member of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD); and an Excellence in Practice Reviewer for ASTD. She is often called on to consult with senior executives at ASTD to provide input and guidance in certification programs. She is also an active member of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management. She consults with both public and private sector clients to help design, develop, implement and maintain both classroom and distance-learning programs. Her focus is on the "human side" of the learning equation to ensure that the trainers receive proper support, guidance and training in selecting and utilizing distance learning methods of delivery. In addition, she helps design learner support tools and methods to ensure success and continuous process improvement for all remote site facilitators and learners. Additionally, she provides workshops and guidance that target soft-skills competencies to support employee success at every level in the organization.

Karen has over 25 years of specialized experience in the development and implementation of workplace education programs, with specific emphasis on reaching learners and clients in dispersed geographic locations, for soft skills training and education. She held many senior leadership positions, including Vice President of a Fortune 500 corporation. Karen's biography is featured in the 2010-2011 editions of Who's Who in the World; Who's Who in America; and Who's Who of American Women.
